Brief

Fo-Ba-Malu is a wholesale textile brand specializing in naturally dyed, fairly woven textiles. It’s core intention is to provide ‘poverty alleviation’ to textile weavers in East-Timor, through developing product systems that are accessible to an international market. The brand formed through long-term partnership between ETWA (Melbourne, Australia) and Koperativa LO’UD (Lautem, East-Timor).

The concept, core brand design and foundational research occurred in 2012, in a five month ‘Artist In Residency’ with Koperativa LO’UD. Now commencing it’s 6th year of partnership, the approach to design and production systems & tools stand strong however the essential root of work that continues surround the production landscape and implementing systems which support growth.
